For the large application of M42 of America, with the excellent characters of super hardness, hot hardness and abrasion, China has produced it in early times. However, with the problems of bad plasticity at heat treatment and easily oxide decarbonising, it causes the low ratio of finished material of M42 and producing knife with small quantity too. Besides, China need import the element of Co for its lacking in domestic with high cost, so the price of M42 is very high and it is not easy for sales and popularity in the Market of China.
The senior engineer Mr. Gao in our company invited the new steel grade---W8Mo5Cr4Vco3N with all technical standards reaching the same as M42 and its hot hardness, plasticity and processing advantages are better than M42, so it can totally replace M42 in usage function. W8Mo5Cr4Vco3N has been listed in Chinese Steel Grade, and Mr. Gao therefore got patent and awarded for the remarkable achievements in science & technology invention & innovation by National Bureau in China Technological Information Promotion System United Nations Development Program.
